Electric vans can cover long distances, but the business case depends on real-world range, payload, charging stops and how tightly the working day is scheduled.
Use real routes, not brochure range
Cold weather, speed, payload and auxiliary equipment can reduce range. Test the likely route with a realistic load where possible.
Look at charging time as an operating cost
A charger stop may be perfectly workable if it fits a break or overnight stop. It is expensive if a driver and van are waiting solely because the route exceeds usable range.
Keep contingency
Diversions, charger faults and unexpected extra jobs happen. A route that only works when every assumption is perfect is not robust enough for daily commercial use.
Choose the vehicles that fit first
Electric does not have to be all-or-nothing. Start with the routes where charging and range are easiest to manage.
